Murcia is a city home to an eclectic mix of architectural design, including Gothic-style historic spots alongside its baroque buildings. There’s a stunning cathedral, as well as the 18th-century palace. It’s situated in South East Spain, meaning it benefits from a warmer Mediterranean climate, making it the perfect location for a holiday home. It’s a relatively laid-back city, so it’s ideal for those wanting to escape the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life.
Annual festivals come to the area and bring bright colours and a real community feel and are guaranteed to be a truly unique experience that is full of Spanish culture. There’s plenty of eateries to try in the city, and the coast is easily accessible by car.
Murcia with Ben Hillman
In May 2020 Ben Hillman helped holiday home-hunters Marianne and Paul find a property in Mar Menor. A uniquely landscaped area, being a saltwater lagoon surrounded by towns and beaches, the couple had a budget of £80,000. The first property he found was a two-bedroomed apartment in Las Terrazas de la Torre, valued at £74,996. It had a lovely private garden, and terrace overlooking the golf course below.
The kitchen inside has modern furnishings and opens onto the terrace. There’s a master bedroom and twin bedroom, as well as a shower room. In Los Nietos was a three-bedroom townhouse valued at £77,586. The living and dining area is open plan, with a separate kitchen room and utility area. The master bedroom and two additional bedrooms are upstairs, as is the family bathroom.
La Torre Golf Resort Properties
Another townhouse was located in La Torre Golf, at £81,853. There’s a terrace outside from where the sun can be enjoyed, and when it’s hot enough the beach is just down the road for a dip in the sea. There’s a master bedroom and two smaller twin rooms perfect for kids. Also in La Torre Golf was a two-bedroomed apartment, situated on the first floor of the complex and valued at £77,543. It has a spacious terrace overlooking the pool and golf course, ideal for sitting in the sun. Inside, it has been recently renovated, evident from the sleek kitchen and the modern-feeling dining room. The bedrooms are equally sized, and there’s a well-equipped bathroom.
The final property from La Torre Golf was a two-bedroomed apartment valued at £84,483, which benefits from subterranean parking and outdoor storage space. The terrace outside is south facing so is a real sun trap, and the light floods into the living and dining area. The kitchen is furnished with modern fittings, and the bedrooms are comfortable whilst being spacious.
Villamartin Murcia Region
Lee and Louise were looking for a holiday home not far from Mar Menor, in Villamartín which is only a 40-minute drive from Murcia. It’s a popular holiday spot for many, not least because of the coast being so easily accessible. Leah Charles-King helped them put their £212,000 budget to good use, successfully finding them a gorgeous four-bed villa valued at £222,222. There was plenty of outdoor spaces from which to relax in the sun, and there’s even a private pool. Upstairs there’s a stunning conservatory opening out onto a spacious living/kitchen/dining area. Both bedrooms are double rooms, and there’s a large family bathroom upstairs. The property also boasts a roof terrace.
One potential option was a two-bedroom villa in Las Filipinas, valued at £205,128. Outside there’s a private pool, and at the top of the property is a solarium from which the sea is visible on a clear day. The living room inside is bright and spacious and leads into the sleek kitchen and dining area. The property even has a basement, which could easily be converted into a guest space. A three-bedroom villa in Monte Golf also had a beautiful rooftop solarium, with an additional self-contained apartment on the downstairs floor. This space had access to an open-plan kitchen, living area, and dining space, as well as a terrace over the pool.
Upstairs are two double bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite. This was valued at £217,949. In Lomas de Cabo Roig, an area right by the coast, was a spacious four-bedroomed villa at £187,197. There’s a terrace out at the front, and a communal pool round the back. Two bedrooms are downstairs whilst the other two are upstairs, where the bathroom is also located.
A Place in the Sun Murcia with Leah
In January 2022, Donna and Graeme enlisted the help of Leah Charles-King to help them find a holiday home within their £75,000 budget. She united them with a lovely two-bedroom townhouse in Roda, an area on the Orihuela Coast just a 30-minute drive to Murcia. This area of Spain is simply stunning, from the coastal harbours to the golden beaches. The townhouse was valued at £86,164 and benefited from a sizeable front patio and access to a communal pool. Inside is a spacious living area and diner, which opens to the kitchen. The two bedrooms are upstairs, where there’s also a balcony and second bathroom. The property also had a roof terrace overlooking the breath-taking surrounding landscape.
In Torrevieja was a two-bedroom apartment valued at £90,086. A seaside village, there’s promenades along the beach to stroll along here, as well as the fantastic Laguna Rosa, home to uniquely pink water. This property had a rooftop solarium with panoramic views of the nearby town, as well as a balcony. The living area is open-plan and leads into the kitchen. Both bedrooms were double in size, and there’s a large bathroom.
