A Place in the Sun Greece

Finding a holiday home or permanent place to live in Greece would be fantastic. The country is a rich and beautiful spot, with a diverse landscape across its mainland and territorial islands. There are so many tranquil locations where the natural beauty is stunning, and there’s also plenty of urban areas with a more urban way of life. The culture is fascinating, from the local dishes to the art and architecture found throughout many of the towns. There’s also the rich lore of the Greek myths to learn about, many of the iconic locations that the Gods have walked able to be visited in person.

Martin and Sonia were searching for their retirement home in July 2022. Laura Hamilton helped them put their £125,000 budget to good use, finding them their dream property for £118,000. Located in Kastania, a small village nestled in the unspoiled countryside, this three-bedroomed property has plenty of potential to be made into somewhere truly special. There’s a large open plan living area where an adjoining dining area could also be located, and there’s two bathrooms. The master bedroom is generously spacious and luxurious, with its own balcony overlooking the garden.

Another option was the less expensive three-bedroomed village house in Kinigos, valued at £90,367. It had recently been renovated, and now has a wrap-around terrace that is the perfect place to enjoy the Greek sun during the sunny months. The living space is all on one floor, but the interior is spacious and roomy. There’s a separate kitchen, and an open lounge and diner. Also available was a new build in Finikounda, a lovely beachside village with plenty of eateries right on the coast. Inside there’s a brand-new kitchen and impressive living space, as well as a shower room. Upstairs the bedroom was light and had plenty of potential for a variety of set ups.

Kassandra and Mark were looking for their new permanent home on the Kassandra Peninsula in the North of Greece. This is the westernmost of the three peninsulas, with the beautiful sea all around. Laura Hamilton helped them search for a property within their £80,000 budget, and successfully found a beautiful two-bedroomed apartment valued at £79,279 in Kriopigi. This was the couple’s favourite town, it being a quaint village with the coast a short walk away. There’s also lots of reef and marine life to discover in the sea. Their town house has plenty of outdoor space, including a garden at the front and back, and a side courtyard. The airy kitchen and living space provide plenty of room to settle in, and opens onto a terrace area outside. There’s two bedrooms upstairs each with their own balcony. The property also benefits from a separate annexe, with a large living and kitchen area.

The couple were torn between that property and another two-bedroomed apartment in Kriopigi, valued at £81,081. It was a brand-new apartment, meaning it had a wonderful new and modern feel. It boasts a stunning sea view from the large balcony, and there’s another balcony around the back. Inside the living space opens out to the kitchen and has a real homely feel. The two bedrooms offered plenty of room, and there was an additional shower room. Also available was a one-bed apartment in Pallini, located a short walk from the village and beach. It was a ground floor apartment with sea views from the balcony. The living space was bright and led out to the spacious kitchen area. This property was valued at £85,585.

In November 2021, Mark and Prriya were searching for a holiday home in the Greek island of Crete with a budget of £300,000. A sedate, lush island with beautiful flora and fauna, this would be the perfect paradise for a holiday home. Especially since the summer season lasts for six months! Lee Juggurnauth found a stunning four bed villa in Plaka, a village straight out of the Greek myths, it being situated right by the Acropolis. Valued at £257,759, the interior of this villa was spacious and light, with two bathrooms and plenty of places to sunbathe. There’s a private pool and breath-taking sea and mountain views.

In Kokkino Chorio was a fantastic three-bedroomed villa only a short drive from Plaka. This was valued at £283,620 and has three roomy floors as well as a private pool and landscaped gardens. There’s an outdoor dining area and terrace ideal for soaking in the six months of sun. Another option was the beautiful two-bedroomed villa in Drapanos worth £301,724. Whilst it was a single storey, its interior was decorated with artwork of the Greek gods and the living space has incredible unspoiled views of the bay below. Outside there’s an infinity pool and BBQ area. Lee also found a charming two-bedroomed villa in Kournas, valued at £275,862. The lake views create a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere at this property, and there’s also a vineyard belonging to the property.
